July 2017 – Newsletter

This latest newsletter is long overdue-so please accept my apologies. It has been a very hectic few months with hunting and the unexpected passing of my father. Thank-you to everyone who contacted us with condolences – it was really touching and Dad would have been so proud.

Early May saw the return of our large VIP group for the 4th time. This time the hunt took place in the Save Valley Conservancy and although it was still very thick and water logged a huge plainsgame bag was hunted, namely giraffe, eland, kudu, impala, nyala, wildebeest and zebras as well as some excellent buffalo which was the main aim. As always the
hunt was extremely memorable for all involved –
unfortunately, I was unable to stay for the duration of this hunt. I would like to say a personal thanks to the contingent of the VIP group who attended Dad’s memorial.

Late May saw the arrival of Cathrine and David on their long awaited leopard hunt in Nyakasanga. Tracks were located, baits shot, hung dragged and checked religiously on a daily basis. Early on a big Tom fed – but never returned for some reason. Towards the twilight hours of the safari Cathrine got her chance and pulled off a great shot on a huge Tom (pictured above left). Landing a nice Tiger fish out of season (pictured above centre) and numerous wild dog sightings (pictured above left) – made for a truly memorable hunt. Congratulations Cathrine on your awesome achievement – we really hope to welcome you and David back again soon!!!

Early July saw me back in Nyakasanga with repeat client Etienne on a tuskless elephant and hippo hunt. As luck would have it, we located a big tuskless on the first day and Etienne frontal brained it at 12 paces (pictured above left) -phenomenal experience. A huge hippo bull eluded them for a few days but ultimately Etienne’s patience paid of and he made another great shot at close quarters-getting a great hippo bull (pictured above second from left). A magnificent kudu and hog contributed to a nice bag. Leopard and lion sightings together with a boat trip drifting down the Zambezi rounded off another great experience. Congratulations Etienne-it is always such a pleasure hunting with you and hopefully the corporate world will let you return in the not too distant future!!
Hunting wise, 2017 has been a great season to date. I still have a few much anticipated hunts coming up that should be great fun and we have a few late season hunts available. Those that may be of particular interest are the leopard and elephant bull (incl. one in our Gonarezhou concession) tags that we managed to secure a little later in the year. If you are interested in any of the late season special-please do get in touch for more details.
