August 2018

Winter in Zimbabwe-what a great time to hunt!!!! Etienne returned to Sengwa with his son Mike for a 2 on 1 buffalo plainsgame hunt in the middle of July, guided by Jannie Meyer. Mike lucked out on the first day, taking a fine, big bossed buffalo (pictured top left)!!! Mike pulled off a perfect heart shot at about 60 metres!! Well done Mike on an awesome shot!!! That afternoon, Etienne managed to bag a much sought after bush- pig (pictured below centre) -what a great start to the hunt. Carrying on as we started, an outstanding waterbuck (pictured below left), eland (pictured below right) and bushbuck followed with Etienne taking a good buffalo later on in the hunt (pictured top right).
It is always a pleasure for us to guide hunters who like to spend the necessary time on foot and in the end we were rewarded with truly wonderful experiences and exceptional memories. Thanks so much Etienne and Mike and we look forward to the next adventure.

August saw the Oelschig Family arrive in Nyakansanga in search of Buffalo, Elephant Bull, Tuskless Elephant, Hippo on land, Kudu and Hyena. Ably assisted by PH “Oom Bert and Dewet, Farley opened their account fairly early on, taking a big hippo bull on land. After several long days hunting elephant “Patient Leon” was rewarded with a great 54lb elephant bull (pictured below centre). Dewet the followed suit bagging his Tuskless Elephant at a mere 12 paces (pictured below left)!!! The rest of the group were not disappointed with Viktor getting his buffalo, Kenny his Hyena and I.D taking a great Kudu Bull (pictured below right) in the twilight hours of the safari.
This was a thoroughly enjoyable hunt which will be remembered fondly by the PH’s and clients alike for years to come.

On a more sombre note-we all know poaching is a reality, as seen by the picture left from the last hunt in Nyakasanga showing the bounty from poachers we managed to apprehend. However we also realise that without clients coming to hunt, their anti-poaching contributions and their presence in the various hunting concessions-there would be no game to speak of. So in the aftermath of an extremely tumultuous period for the Zimbabwean hunting industry, where we are sure you have had to repeatedly defend your hunting expeditions, we would like to take this opportunity to say a heartfelt thank-you to all of our clients and agents for their continued support of Buffalo Trails and Zimbabwean wildlife as a whole.

Unbelievably, we are already beginning to plan everything for the 2016 hunting conventions. This year we would like to allocate a few days in January to invite you to have a live skype chat with Jannie Meyer prior to the shows. We are aware that the conventions can be overwhelmingly busy. By doing this we aim for you to “meet Jannie” prior to the shows and we can then be better prepared for individual requirements at the conventions. If this is something that you would be interested in, please do let us know so we can establish the number of necessary slots and the various time zones etc.
