Mid September saw PH Bert Keightley return to Coutada 9 in Mozambique to guide return client Roberto on his endeavours for sable, nyala, eland and crocodile. It wasn’t long until the formidable duo had a huge nyala , warthog , sable, reedbuck in the salt. A short break to the rustic river camp set on the Zambezi enabled them to bag their crocodile after which they returned to Coutada 9 for Roberto’s much sought after eland. Towards the end of the hunt, Bert’s guiding and tracking abilities combined with Roberto’s marksmanship delivered a monster old eland bull (above right). What a phenomenal end to a great hunt— Congratulations again Roberto always a pleasure and thanks again for the fantastic Italian dinner to round everything off !!!
As always it is heating up substantially at this time of year, waterholes gradually getting smaller and the usually dense cover becoming sparse. With this comes more concentrated animal populations and increased visibility which translates generally to increased success for the hunters. And this year has proven to be no exception. Bert then made his way down to Nyakasanga to guide life-time friends Renato and Antonio on Renato’s two behemouths quest. Early on in the hunt Bert put Renato on to an old tuskless and some skilled shooting from Renato using his double saw the tuskless cow go down. The hippo on land hunt then began in earnest with Bert scouring every possible island. It was only a matter of time before Rentato got an opportunity to frontal brain a hippo at close quarters. The rest of the hunt comprised of drifting along the Zambezi fishing and some great humour!! Well done Renato on a great hunt and for all the laughs!!!!
Unbelievably, we are already beginning to plan everything for the 2016 hunting conventions. This year we would like to allocate a few days in January to invite you to have a live skype chat with Jannie Meyer prior to the shows. We are aware that the conventions can be overwhelmingly busy. By doing this we aim for you to “meet Jannie” prior to the shows and we can then be better prepared for individual requirements at the conventions. If this is something that you would be interested in, please do let us know so we can establish the number of necessary slots and the various time zones etc.
The intense October heat saw Karsten, accompanied by good friend Erwin make their hunting debut to Zimbabwe to be guided by PH Jannie Meyer Jnr. The fringes of Gonarezhou are renowned for producing quality elephant bulls but hunting in communal lands is never easy. As these wiley old tuckers seem to get smarter each year!!! Grit and determination however, paid off for Karsten when he confidently bagged a great old elephant bull on the last day of his hunt.
Weidmanshail Karsten on a fantastic end to a very challenging hunt!!!
