October 2017 – Newsletter

The 2017 hunting season has nearly come to an end already with just a few remaining hunts to go. It has been another great season reconnecting with some old
clients and forging relationships with some new. Each and every hunt has been extremely enjoyable and a privilege to guide.

Soon afterwards Gary, his wife Susan and a few days later – long time friend in the form of “The World Famous Captain Mac” joined me on a leopard, hippo hunt. Gary was on a mission to bag the uber elusive leopard. After an eventful start to the hunt we all arrived in Nyakasanga to begin the real adventure. After some crack shooting and a bit of “combat hunting” we quickly put out several baits. It wasn’t log before we had a brute of a tom feeding. Gary made a perfect shot on the massive cat (pictured above left and far left), late in the afternoon on his first day sitting in the blind. It was a truly huge old cat, especially for the Zambezi Valley with a 16.5 inch skull-measurements not often taken in the valley. Wild dog sightings, lion, buffalo and elephant all added to another phenomenal hunt. Congratulations Gary on some great hunting-I was delighted to make your dream a reality!!!!
Captain Mac joined the festivities mid-way through the safari completing the team and a will placed shot on a big hippo bull got the ball rolling followed by some serious bird hunting and another outstanding shot on a big dog baboon. Another memorable hunt for me from start to finish with an awesome group of people.
I still have a couple of hunts left for the season which I will give details on in the last newsletter of 2017 (I cannot believe how quickly this year has flown by) – and due to some last minute cancellations I have a couple of slots left for some very economical hunts – notably for elephant bull, lion and a couple of buffalo and hippo. If these may be of interest to you-please do contact me to find out all of the details.
I have also just received the news I was waiting for before sending out this newsletter – I have secured the 2 leopard permits for the 2018 hunting season in Nyakasanga (where the above pictured leopard was taken). These will be sold on a first come first serve basis so get in touch if you’d like to book one of them.
As always we will be attending the SCI Hunting Convention in Las Vegas (this year at the Las Vegas Convention Centre – NOT Mandalay Bay. Our booth numbers are 2918 & 2920-and I look forward to seeing you all there.

Dan & Judy joined me on a 2 on 1 ten day buffalo, hippo hunt in Nyakasanga, an impressive 17 years after first hunting together. As a PH, a great hunt seems to have a certain rhythm and pace that makes the whole experience very enjoyable and successful. This was one of those hunts!! Judy took an outstanding old dagga boy (pictured above right) early on in the hunt and Dan a big hippo bull (pictured above centre). Not long afterwards Dan made a great shot on his buffalo (pictured above left) and we could then focus our attention on the real hunting-hyaena and plainsgame. A few early mornings later, we had a number of these elusive creatures in the salt. Judy took a big zebra stallion, magnificent kudu (pictured top right) and a monster eland bull (pictured left) – we all know how difficult this can be. Thanks Dan & Judy for a really memorable hunt-and I really look forward to seeing you in Vegas !!!
