September/ October 2015 – Newsletter
September & October saw Buffalo Trails hunting primarily in the Lower Zambezi Valley in Chirundu and Nyakasanga. This year Robbie was joined by his father on a buffalo bull, plainsgame hunt out of the scenic river camp. The hunt started with a bang with Robbie taking a good old buffalo bull (pictured above left) at very close quarters on the first morning. A great plainsgame bag was hunted over the remaining days including baboon, hyena, kudu (pictured below left) warthog (pictured below centre), and the star of the show which was a 26.5inch impala (pictured below right). It was fantastic to have other family members in camp to join in on the hunt for a few days and seeing elephant and lion daily combined with an awesome wild dog chase really etched the experience in everyone’s minds. Coincidentally, I think it is well worth mentioning that Robbie hunted all of his trophies with his open sighted .375 Bruno. Congratulations Robbie and we really look forward to hunting with you again in the future!!!!
Early October saw the arrival of long time Buffalo Trails client Ralf and his family on his “Birthday Bash Safari” guided by Jannie and Peter. The hunting family had a great start with Niklaus shooting a huge 14.5 foot crocodile (pictured below top centre) and Steffan taking a big hippo bull (pictured below top left). Multiple hyena (pictured below bottom centre), baboons and impala were also added to their bag. Perhaps the highlight for the boys was their two excellent kudu (pictured below bottom left) and for Ralf it was a great to be able to give his wife Andrea an African birthday to remember and Leonie, his daughter her first impala. It is always such a privilege to hunt with a family who are so passionate about wildlife. PH Peter’s tireless enthusiasm throughout the hunt and Duncan’s great job of capturing everything in some fantastic footage ensured that that the family will be able to enjoy the experience digitally for years to come. Weidmanshail to the whole family on an outstanding hunt!!!!
The weather has become decidedly warm and the whole of Zimbabwe is waitng with baited breath for the much anticipated and hoped for first rains and hopefully a good rainy season. We are in the last few hunting weeks of the year with our last hunts now in progress that will be featured in our last newsletter of 2015 next month. Good luck to all of those still out in the field!!!
Unbelievably, we are already beginning to plan everything for the 2016 hunting conventions. This year we would like to allocate a few days in January to invite you to have a live skype chat with Jannie Meyer prior to the shows. We are aware that the conventions can be overwhelmingly busy. By doing this we aim for you to “meet Jannie” prior to the shows and we can then be better prepared for individual requirements at the conventions. If this is something that you would be interested in, please do let us know so we can establish the number of necessary slots and the various time zones etc.
