Jannie Meyer

Jannie Meyer was born in 1976 in the small farming town of Triangle, which had the nearest hospital to the family home.

Jannie is the youngest child of Beulah and legendary Professional Hunter J P S Meyer who was one of the first licensed PH’s in Zimbabwe, who hunted until his passing in 2017. Jannie’s Grandfather was also a passionate hunter, who founded “Eaglemont Ranch” the family homestead in the Lowveld of Zimbabwe.

Jannie has been immersed in hunting since very early childhood, taking his first mammalian trophy at seven – birds were fair game at a much younger age. Jannie was brought up with a huge appreciation and value for all wildlife – “if you shot it – you ate it” and many school holidays were spent in the bush of Eaglemont – living off the land.

Jannie attended junior school in the Lowveld at Murray McDougal School and then had to move further afield for secondary school at Peterhouse Boys School in Marondera. On completion of his ‘A Levels’ Jannie went on to attend Stellenbosch University in the Western Cape of South Africa, where he attained a Bachelor of Arts degree majoring in politics and philosophy (and wine tasting) – making for some very interesting and amusing fireside chats.

Shortly after returning from University, Jannie was involved in a life-altering car accident in Harare – where he lost his lower left leg. This did derail Jannie’s immediate plans to get his Professional Hunter’s license – but after all of the necessary medical procedures, Jannie continued where he had left off in his apprenticeship and went on to gain his Full License in 2003. He has been successfully hunting ever since and his loyal client base and track record is testament to this.
Jannie is fortunate to be quite adept at picking up new languages. Jannie’s first language is English however he also speaks good conversational Shona & Afrikaans, conversational German, passable Spanish and the odd Russian phrase.

Hayley Meyer

Hayley Meyer nee Flaxman was born, raised and educated in Harare, Zimbabwe. After finishing secondary school at Arundel Girls School, Hayley worked in the tourism industry in Zimbabwe before going to the UK for a year’s work experience – which extended to six years, in London.Hayley returned home to Zimbabwe in 2005 and slotted back in to the tourism industry working for a large hunting operation.

Jannie and Hayley met through mutual hunting friends in 2007 and the rest as they say is “history” – with them tying the knot in 2013. In 2012 Hayley teamed up with Jannie as his administrative support cum gopher and has been “guiding him ever since”. Hayley is in the office for any queries or assistance clients may need and ensures that all of the hunting formalities are taken care of.

Petrus Baloyi

09/03/1973 – 07/08/2020

Petrus sadly succumbed to cancer on the 7th August 2020 after a short battle very bravely borne. He is so very missed as part of the team and part of our family. His huge smile and sense of humour will always be remembered fondly and greatly missed. A great man gone far too soon. May his dear soul rest in peace.

Petrus is from Chipinda Pools in the Lowveld and has been working with Jannie since 2005. Petrus is a phenomenal tracker and competent bush driver. Being a Shangaan he has a quiet disposition and an extraordinarily dry sense of humour. He may not say much but he is amazingly observant and pulls out all of the stops when the chips are down. He is hard-working and diligent and really has Jannie’s back.

Wonder Muwodzeri

03/09/1973 – 04/12/2019

Wonder sadly passed away on the 4th December 2019 after complications from a routine surgery. Wonder was so talented at so many things and always cheerful. His presence is missed on so many levels. He was a cheeky little rascal and the memory of his shenanigans still make us smile. Another great man gone far too soon. May his dear soul rest in peace.

Wonder is from Masoka Village in Dande and has been working with Jannie since 2004. Wonder is a little younger and a little more savvy. He always has a ready smile and can turn his hand to most things. As well has being a tracker, Wonder is a good skinner, a deft tree-climber and regularly does maintenance on Jannie’s prosthetic.

Both Petrus and Wonder are loyal and valued team-mates who Jannie relies on immensely in the field. Spending as much time together in the bush as at home, they all have a close bond and work together like a finely tuned machine. We are so fortunate to have Petrus and Wonder onboard as they are an integral part of the success and overall experience of each and every hunt.

The Team Now

After the loss of Wonder and Petrus and COVID we are still building a permanent team that is the right fit for us.  Those of you who have hunted with us in recent years may have hunted with Peter, Shingi, Tiki and Rindai.  All great trackers – the team will be finalised by the end of this year after we have worked with a few people for enough time to see who works well with us.
